President’s Task Force on Carbon Neutrality and Climate Resilience
Working Group on Governance and Financing

The Working Group on Governance and Financing (Working Group 8) focuses on the governance structures (potentially, but not necessarily, taking the form of a Sustainability office or institute) that will ensure that the Climate Action Plan is implemented, communicated, evaluated, and periodically revised, and that maximizes the efficacy and communication of related research, education, engagement, and economic development efforts across Rutgers. It will also examine the relationship between the Climate Action Plan and Rutgers’ budget structure, and opportunities for incentivizing climate-positive investments.

We will aim to have an initial report developed by the end of 2020 that looks at how best to set up the governance structures, given other models at Rutgers in similar issues and at other schools in this area, as well as ways in which budgeting and financing mechanisms could be adjusted/used to support climate action. The governance structure should be clear and have clearly defined roles and activities, with a concrete 5-year work plan.
